Ingredients

Substances that may constitute a risk to the health are subjected to special restrictions. Some are prohibited and must not be included in cosmetics and hygiene products. Others are only permitted in limited concentrations, in specific categories of products or may only be used if specific conditions of use are met.

The Swedish Medical Products Agency’s provisions on the Prohibition and Restrictions of Certain Substances from being included in Cosmetics and Hygiene Products (LVFS 2007:4) contain the requirements for ingredients.

Preservatives, colouring agents and UV-filters are only allowed if they are listed in the appendices to the provisions.

An English translation of the introductory part of these provisions is available. However, the appendices 1-5 with the rules on specific ingredients have not been translated. Please refer to the corresponding annexes of the Cosmetics Directive 76/768/EEC (English version, annexes I-IV and VI-VII). A list of the (Swedish) appendices and their corresponding (Cosmetics Directive) annexes has been added to the English translation.
