Cosmetics and hygiene products such a soap, toothpaste or lipstick must not damage health or the environment. Demands are therefore made on, for example, their ingredients, safety documentation and written information on the package. Responsibility for their safety lies with the manufacturer or importer, but the Medical Products Agency carries out a number of checks to see that the companies and products fulfil these demands. Sweden’s local authorities also work actively with such controls.
