Welcome to the Medical Products Agency - Sweden
The Medical Products Agency (MPA) is the Swedish national authority responsible for regulation and surveillance of the development, manufacturing and marketing of drugs and other medicinal products. Our task is to ensure that both the individual patient and healthcare professionals have access to safe and effective medicinal products and that these are used in a rational and cost-effective manner.
The Swedish pharmacy market
Since July 1, 2009, private pharmacies are allowed in Sweden. The re-regulation of the Swedish pharmacy market is expected to lead to more pharmacies and more generous opening hours.
Scientific advice
It is the MPA´s responsibility to give the industry advice by answering questions connected with the development of medical products based on the applicant’s documentation. Advice may be requested for all medical products, irrespective of subsequent choice of procedure for approval.
